This year, IDA is one of the finalists of the "Welcome"- prize of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The BMBF awards this prize to outstanding student initiatives of the DAAD-"Welcome"- programme that funds IDAs activities. Among 50 applicants, we have now been chosen as one of the top three initiatives in Germany.
The prize is targeted at initiatives that can serve as a model for the support of refugees and international students. Although we still don't know, whether we'll come in first, second or third at the awarding ceremony in Berlin on July 5th, we are very happy to be nominated. Keep your fingers crossed for us, we'll keep you posted.
PS: This nomination would not be possible without your support and engagement! Therefore we want to thank everyone, who has supported us and made our activities work. Dear helpers, supporters and volunteers: YOU ARE GREAT!
Our Buddy-Program is soon starting its third round.
The program ist targeted at refugees that want to apply for university. Every refugee buddy will be matched with a local, who can help with questions regarding studies, as well as everyday problems and who can introduce their buddies to the local scene. In the past two semesters the program has enabled many language tandems and frienships. Every month, we organize an event for all participants to meet, eat and have fun.
You can apply to be part of the program here. Application deadline is April 21. We will then assign your buddy until the end of April and hold the first meeting in May.
When: 15. December 2016, hours: 20:00 - 01:00
Where: Club Novitatis, Fritz-Löffler-Str. 12C (basement), Dresden

We want to eat, drink and dance with you and celebrate the ending of a nice and successfull year. Bring your friends and friends of friends - the more the merrier 🙂

On the 17.11.16 IDA was invited to the Marwa El-Sherbini-culture and education center (MKEZ), to learn about islam. Dr. Muhammed-Ronald Wellenreuther, who converted to islam over 20 years ago, spoke about the history and origins of islam and muslim live in the present time. We were able to learn about the daily live of muslims in Germany and wide spread misunderstandings of muslim culture and religion.
